What is hop up-
Hop-up is what gives your bb's backspin and creates for a more accurate and longer distance shot. The hop-up consists of several parts. The bucking has a small lump which is what creates the contact with the bb. You have the hop-up nub which is what pushes down on the bucking lump to create for more hop-up. You will have to re adjust your hop-up if you change bb weight.

Adjustable Vs. Fixed hop-up system-
Most replicas come with hop-up now but there is still a few that don't.
Adjustable- Allows you to add more or less backspin to your bb's allowing you to create a more accurate shot.

Fixed hop-up -A system that is fixed and does not allow for adjustment. It still has the lump in the bucking but there is nothing to adjust. The only way to correct the shot is by changing the weight of the bb's.

How to properly adjust hop-up-
Turn the hopup all the way off. Fire a couple shots and turn the nob slightly, then take a few more shots. Continue until the bb's fly straight.

When and why replace/upgrade-
After Replacing a hop-up bucking you may not notice a change in performance until the bucking gets broken in.

Staff tip: Most guns (besides Tokyo Marui) come with super crappy hop up bucking (hop up rubber). You can increase your accuracy, range, and sometimes FPS by simply replacing this $10 part.

H-Hop (or v-shape) nubs are aftermarket nubs that change the shape of the HU bump from a round bump to a flat bump.

Some airsofters claim that this produces a straighter flatter BB flight path.

Hop-Up Parts-

Bucking
The rubber sleeve that goes around the barrel. The nub presses into it to create the bump. There are two types of buckings. Hard and Soft. Hard buckings are for guns that shoot 425 fps+. Soft type buckings are for guns shooting 425 and below. Buckings tend to get very dirty after a while of use and its good to clean and add some silicone oil to it ever so often.

Nub-
The piece that gets pushed into the hop-up rubber to create the "bump" that presses on the BB Your adjustable hop-up will come with the nub pictured on the right. Most people like to upgrade to the nub pictured on the left for better performance.

Hop-Up Unit-
This is the device that holds the barrel and associated hop up parts. The unit itself contains the adjustment gear and hop up arm. This is a M4/M16 hop-up unit and the parts.

Spacer-
This piece goes over your inner barrel and slides right into the end of the hop-up unit. It creates a tighter seal and prevents your inner barrel from moving during shots.
